This is seriously one of the best dinners I have made in a while. Now that it is getting cold out, I have been making more and more hot dinners – this hit the spot. A friend of mine informed me that TVP (textured vegetable protein) is extremely cheap and can be found in the bulk section of my local grocery store. I immediately went to find it and test it out! It tastes like meat to me, honestly. I did not actually make the spaghetti sauce (I bought it pre-made), but the instructions for how to properly hydrate the TVP are written down below. Try TVP out if you haven’t yet! It is so cheap ($2 per pound where I live which gets you lots of TVP because it is light) and easy to make when you are in a hurry!
Spaghetti With TVP
1/2 cup TVP
1/2 cup water, boiling
1 24-ounce jar of spaghetti sauce
1/2 box of angel hair spaghetti
Cilantro
Fill up a big pot with water and bring the water to a boil (to cook spaghetti noodles). Add 1/2 cup of the the boiling water to your TVP. Let the TVP sit for 5 minutes and then press out excess water with a napkin. Heat up your spaghetti sauce in a small pot and add the TVP. Add spaghetti noodles to your big pot of boiling water and cook according to the package instructions. Serve cooked spaghetti with sauce and cilantro on top.
Note: I originally added the cilantro on top just for the picture, but then I tried it with the spaghetti and it was SO GOOD!!!
